唐朝时期，文人许敬宗为人傲慢，新交的朋友经人介绍后往往立刻忘记人家的姓名。有人说他记性太坏，他辩解说：“像你这种人，我当然记不住，倘若遇到何逊、刘孝标、沈约、谢朓他们，即使是暗中摸索，我也不难辨认。”
