从前楚国有个猎人，他捕鸟技艺很精湛。一次他捕获一只美丽的山鸡准备到城里去卖，过路的富翁询问是什么鸟，猎人骗他是凤凰，于是以2000金卖给富翁。富翁觉得凤凰应该进献给楚王，可是山鸡在路上死了。消息传到楚王那里，楚王嘉奖他的忠心。
