宋朝时期，王安石与客人闲谈，偶然谈到佛经，他感慨地说：“投老欲依僧”，表示想与和尚去做伴。旁人加上一句“急则抱佛脚”。王安石不悦，那人说古诗对谚语，如改成对联则成为“老欲依僧，急来抱佛”，头脚相对。
