公元前712年，同为周宗室姬姓的郑国与息国因为一些小事发生了矛盾，势力弱小的息国很不冷静，竟派兵攻打强大的郑国，结果大败被实力强大的楚国渔翁得利给灭掉。人们分析息国是冒天下之大不韪，贸然出兵而导致灭亡。
