哀鸿遍野的典故

西周时期，周厉王任命荣夷公为卿士，对内残酷剥削，疯狂敛财，搞得民不聊生，哀鸿遍野。派卫巫监督百姓的言行，搞得人心惶惶。愤怒的人们起来反抗，赶走了周厉王。周宣王即位，他带领卿士巡访城郊，见到到处都是“鸿雁于飞，哀鸣嗷嗷。”的惨状。
