吴玉如，字家琭，后以字行。1898年生于南京。原籍安徽泾县茂林村，故早年号茂林居士，晚年自署迂叟。曾在天津南开中学就读，与周恩来同班，因娴熟古文，受校长张伯苓赏识。抗战胜利后，吴玉如曾在志达中学、达仁学院、工商学院等校任教，工商学院改为津沽大学后，任中文系主任，直迄天津解放。“文化大革命”以前，始终在北京以教书、鬻字、注释古籍、编撰《辞源》、《辞海》条目为生。建国后，曾任天津市政协委员、中国书法家协会名誉理事、天津市文联委员、天津市文史馆馆员。
