（519—562）南朝梁宗室，后梁国君，字理孙。梁武帝孙，昭明太子萧统第三子。幼好学，善属文，尤长佛理。梁武帝大通三年，封岳阳郡王，官东扬州刺史。萧统卒，梁武帝舍察兄弟而立简文，察常怀不平，遂蓄财募侠。大同元年，迁雍州刺史，境内称治。侯景乱后，察既与江陵构隙，恐不能自固，乃依附西魏。西魏恭帝元年，西魏将于谨等攻破江陵，杀死梁元帝。次年察在江陵称帝，改元大定，为西魏附庸，上疏称臣，是为后梁。既而阖城长幼，被虏入关，又失襄阳之地。察耻威略不振，终以忧愤发背而卒。在位八年，庙号中宗。有《悯时赋》、《金光明经义疏》等。
