方信孺[公元1177年至1222年]字孚若，兴化军（四库总目作，莆田霞皋）人。生于宋孝宗淳熙四年，卒于宁宗嘉定十五年，年四十六岁。有隽才，未冠能文。周必大、杨万里颇赞善之。以荫补番禺尉，治盗有异绩。开禧三年，（公元一二零七年）假朝奉郎使金，自春至秋三往返，以口舌折强敌。历淮东转运判官，知真州。后奉祠归，屏居岩穴，放浪诗酒以终。其父为叶颙宰相的女婿，其为叶颙宰相的孙女婿。
