许稷，字君苗，莆田人。大约生于唐代宗大历年间(766-779)，稷与欧阳詹为学友，詹生于大历三年(768)，俩人年纪相伯仲，稷为清源军莆田县沿海人。曾在京师与欧阳詹、林藻等酒会，激于林藻戏语，隐终南山，苦学三年，出就府荐，于唐德宗贞元十八年（802）举进士，历南省员外，终衡州刺史。《全唐诗》录其二诗，《全唐诗外编》补诗一首，《全唐诗续拾》补断句六。
