译文
太阳每天由东到西运行，时间日益流逝。河川日夜流逝，一去不返，真是可悲。短短的光阴从不停留，尺寸的波浪怎能够自动回流？岁月的逝去和到来犹如弓箭那样迅速。久远的生命很少人能够达到，能活到百岁的本来就很少。人的容颜每天都在凋谢，人的体力和精神也无缘无故地自动消耗着。生命本就难以停留，寿命本就难以延长，人活在人世间，不过是瞬间而逝的事情。即使对此怨愤不平也无济于事，因为这是自然的规律。只恨我还没有建立功名，不能留名史册。趁着年岁还没有到晚年的时候，唱一曲长歌来表达自己的情志。
注释
逝矣经天日：是说每天太阳由东到西运行，使时间日益流逝。
悲哉带地川：是说河川日夜流逝，一去不返，所以可悲。
晷（ɡuǐ）：日影，此处指时间。
矢：弓箭。
远期：久远的生命。
鲜克及：很少能够达到。
盈数：这里指人生百岁。
体泽：体力和精神。
俛（miǎn）仰：同“俯仰”，比喻时间短暂。
竹帛：均为书写所用，这里代指史册。宣：记载、流传。

陆机（261－303），字士衡，吴郡吴县（今江苏苏州）人，西晋文学家、书法家，孙吴丞相陆逊之孙、大司马陆抗之子，与其弟陆云合称“二陆”。孙吴灭亡后出仕晋朝司马氏政权，曾历任平原内史、祭酒、著作郎等职，世称“陆平原”。后死于“八王之乱”，被夷三族。他“少有奇才，文章冠世”（《晋书·陆机传》），与弟陆云俱为中国西晋时期著名文学家，被誉为“太康之英”。陆机还是一位杰出的书法家，他的《平复帖》是中古代存世最早的名人书法真迹。
