译文
大热的天气，我散乱着头发，衣服也披在身上，坐在新开的池子旁边。在盘子里盛着用冷水浸泡过的甜瓜朱李。泉水慢慢地流过来浸到台阶上了。我凿个池儿，叫月儿也到池子里来。
彩色画的栋梁，映在池子里频频地摇动。红色的芙蕖，都在水里倒开着。在我身边的心爱的人儿，把池子当做镜子，照着自己香腮上搽着红粉，要和红蕖比赛看看，谁的脸色最红，谁最漂亮。

浮瓜沉李：将瓜李等果品浸泡于池水之中，以求凉爽宜口。
画栋：画有彩绘的房柱，代指屋舍。
红蕖：粉红色的荷花。
南歌子·新开池戏作鉴赏
这首为带湖家园新开的小池所作的“纪念词”，确实轻浅自然，妙趣横生，充满了小品式的谐趣。词以夏夜纳凉为契机，写他对这个新开小池的喜爱之情。上片主要写他夏夜池边纳凉的闲适之情。起韵写池，笔意曲折，以散发披襟的处所、浮瓜沉李的杯子这样的“谜面”，来暗伏新池这个“谜底”。同时，起韵写池而又兼写人：词人在新池边纳凉的快意、方便与闲适，于此可见。“涓涓”一韵，仍是曲折写池，写新池一筑，水意充盈，以至侵湿台阶、送来凉爽的情形。上片末韵，以“筑个池儿”的轻巧口吻正面点题，兼写因池见月的景象。这里的用语轻松有趣：“池儿”、“月儿”的称呼，轻俗便捷，足见喜爱之情；而“唤个月儿”的措辞，不仅写景由实境入空，更是妙语解颐：天下有水则有月，本无稀奇，经词人这么一说，平常的一个意思竟显出盎然的趣味。下片主要写池中丰美的倒影，写得空灵而优美。这倒影由无生命之物到有生命的高级动物逐层递进，诗意渐浓而意境渐美。首先他写池水边自己华居画栋在池水中投下它的倒影，这倒影随波摇动，空灵不定。其次他写池水中的粉色荷花也在池中投下自己的倒影。水面上开放的荷花和水中荷花的倒影交相辉映又浑然一体，使人乍见之下，以为是荷花“倒开”于水中。于此可见，同写倒影，但词人笔法有变，一就其“摇动”来写，一就其“倒开”来写，这就不显得单调了。最后一个可以与池水中的荷花倒影媲美的，是一个打扮好的红妆美人临池照影的倒影。对这个倒影，词人没有正面下笔，而是用“照香腮”、“把做镜儿猜”的写其实体，来埋伏池中必有其倒影之意。

辛弃疾（1140－1207），南宋词人。原字坦夫，改字幼安，别号稼轩，汉族，历城（今山东济南）人。出生时，中原已为金兵所占。21岁参加抗金义军，不久归南宋。历任湖北、江西、湖南、福建、浙东安抚使等职。一生力主抗金。曾上《美芹十论》与《九议》，条陈战守之策。其词抒写力图恢复国家统一的爱国热情，倾诉壮志难酬的悲愤，对当时执政者的屈辱求和颇多谴责；也有不少吟咏祖国河山的作品。题材广阔又善化用前人典故入词，风格沉雄豪迈又不乏细腻柔媚之处。由于辛弃疾的抗金主张与当政的主和派政见不合，后被弹劾落职，退隐江西带湖。
