清早就已打开层层的屋门，坐立不安地盼着友人，竖耳倾听有没有车子到来的声音；
以为听到了友人身上玉佩的清脆响声，正要出门去迎接，哪知原来自己弄错了；
晚钟响在皇家的园林里，细雨从春城的上空轻轻拂过；
已经明白他顾不上过来，是自己太过急切想要见到他。

此诗当作于唐玄宗天宝六载（747年）左右。储光羲生活于开元天宝间，与王维友好，二人常有诗唱达。作此诗时王维和储光羲同在朝廷任职。

待储光羲不至鉴赏
此诗写出了诗人很渴望和友人见面的心情。重重门户从清早就打开，这样还不够，还要坐着，想听听载着友人到来的马车发出的声音，这一个细节，写活了抽象的友情。当然，光听见车声还不行，还要等到友人身上的玉佩因步行而发出的清脆的撞击声时，才是出户迎接的绝好时机。首联写动作，颔联写心情，其实都是写渴望，和渴望中些微的焦急，在这一切的核心，是爱。颈联一转，从写心情转移到写景。这是一个很自然的跳跃。通常在候人不至之时，为了避免焦虑，等候者会自然地把注意力转移到别处，即便是最枯燥的风景，也看得津津有味。颈联表达恰好表达出了等待者久候人不至的心情。时间已经不早，晚钟已经响起，诗人已经等待了一天，但是友人未至，而且又下起小雨。可以想象自然的光线已逐渐暗下去，雨在若有若无地降落，在这种阴郁，潮湿，幽暗而又寂静的环境和氛围中，愁绪在以喷泉的速度生长。尾联十字，一声长叹，写已明知友人不来，而期待之情仍萦绕于怀，经久不去。
王维此诗颈联侧重于听觉，陈与义的《春雨》里也有相似的句子：“孤莺啼永昼，细雨湿高城”，其实细较之下，也可以觉出很大的不同。王维的两句，晚钟鸣响，用耳朵听，自不必说，雨过春城，当然也是用听，两句都是表现一个感官所攫到的效果。反观陈与义的诗，莺啼是听觉，而雨湿高城，却与王维的雨过高城不同。过，只写雨的一种状态，运动的状态，但是湿，却写出了雨过所产生的效果。这大概也是在《泊船瓜洲》中王安石把春风“又到”，“又过”，最终改为“又绿”的原因。但是王维的这两句不能从原诗中孤立出来，此联的“晚钟”是和首联的“朝已启”相照应的，而“过”字，表达的也许是因春雨已过对友人还不来的一种埋怨之情。
这首诗的深层意思其实在前四句，即肯定储光羲的值得人敬爱的为人，所以才写作者期待之殷切。

王维（701年－761年，一说699年—761年），字摩诘，汉族，河东蒲州（今山西运城）人，祖籍山西祁县，唐朝诗人，有“诗佛”之称。苏轼评价其：“味摩诘之诗，诗中有画；观摩诘之画，画中有诗。”开元九年（721年）中进士，任太乐丞。王维是盛唐诗人的代表，今存诗400余首，重要诗作有《相思》《山居秋暝》等。王维精通佛学，受禅宗影响很大。佛教有一部《维摩诘经》，是王维名和字的由来。王维诗书画都很有名，非常多才多艺，音乐也很精通。与孟浩然合称“王孟”。
