译文
洞庭湖畔树叶还没有掉落，潇湘一带秋天正要来临。
高敞的书斋，今夜风雨飘摇，孤独地躺卧在武昌城中。
对故乡的思念重又萦绕心头，身处江汉不由产生凄凉之情。
不知高飞天外的鸿雁，为什么事情乐于远途跋涉，高飞天外呢？
注释
武昌：今湖北省会武汉市武昌镇。
洞庭：湖名，在湖南之北，长江南岸。
潇湘：湖南省二水名。
高斋：高敞的书斋。
桑梓（zǐ）：《诗·小雅·小弁》：“维桑与梓，必恭敬止。”古代住宅旁常栽桑梓二木，故后人用以喻家乡。张衡《南都赋》：“永世克孝，怀桑梓焉。”
凄其：寒冷的样子。
江汉：汉水流至湖北省汉口入长江，故称江汉，武昌在汉口对岸。
长征：长途跋涉。

在武昌作创作背景
作者在壮年时曾远离桑梓、流寓江湘，而这首五律，正是写于秋肃将临、诗人客居武昌的时候。秋天的肃杀凄凉，让作者更生思乡之情，于是有感而发，写下这首诗篇。

在武昌作鉴赏
首联“洞庭叶未下，潇湘秋欲生”，“洞庭”“潇湘“点明客居地域，“叶未下“这个意象，则用来印证“秋欲生”的时令，是袅袅秋风将降的物候特征。此处化用《楚辞·湘夫人》：“塌搦兮秋风，洞庭波兮木叶下”句意，说洞庭湖边木叶虽然尚未凋零飘落，而秋意似乎已先来到了诗人的心上，已感觉到凉秋的逼进了。营造了一种秋未至而情欲悲的氛围。
颔联“高斋今夜雨，独卧武昌城”是紧承首联“秋欲生”而来，季节变化的信号自然是风雨。在风雨催秋声中，诗人无奈，只好一个人在武昌城书斋中闷头睡大觉了。这两句以高韵胜，有蝉蜕轩举之风。
颈联“重以桑梓念，凄其江汉情”，又承颔联“独卧”而来，转入直接抒情，第五句入思乡，第六句以江汉抱合，紧承前半首。高斋独卧，冷雨敲窗，作者借此烘托出客居他乡的冷落凄清，顺理成章地将思乡之情在这里抒发出来，显得更加真挚感人。
尾联写到天外传来雁声，诗人发问。这末二句，表面上是问雁，实际上是以雁衬人，相辅而相成，借雁来抒发自己远离桑梓、流寓江湘的感情。
全诗感情脉膊的发展极其自然，“秋欲生”，自然表现为“今夜雨”，因雨而“独卧”，由“独卧”而思家。联联相承，句句牵引，丝丝入扣。全诗八句，一气呵成，写景抒情，浑然一体。

徐祯卿（1479－1511）字昌谷，一字昌国，汉族，吴县（今江苏苏州）人，祖籍常熟梅李镇，后迁居吴县。明代文学家，被人称为“吴中诗冠”，是吴中四才子（亦称江南四大才子）之一。因“文章江左家家玉，烟月扬州树树花”之绝句而为人称誉。
