译文
自从与夫君离别之后，思忿之情绪日渐加深，这短短的信笺，无法写尽我要倾诉的思情。信中的每一个字，都饱含着我的相思之苦，希望夫君仔细阅读，明白此情。
我清楚地记得，当时相约，你最迟于仲夏樱桃红熟之时回家。我日日盼，夜夜想，已经到了秋天，连菊花都开放了，为什么还没有你回来的音信呢?
注释
相思：即“相思子”，中药名。
意已：谐中药名“薏苡”。
白纸：指信笺。又谐中药名“白芷”。
苦参商：谓夫妻别离，苦如参商二星不能相见。参星在西，商星(即辰星)在东，此出彼没，无法相见。苦参，中药名。
檀郎读：一作“槟郎读”(“槟郎”亦是中药名)。意谓请丈夫仔细阅读。檀郎，晋代潘岳是美男子，小名擅奴．故旧时常以“檀郎”代称夫婿或所爱男子。郎读，谐中药名“狼毒”。
当归：应该回家。亦中药名。
远至：最迟到，最迟于。又谐中药名“远志”。
樱桃熟：樱桃红熟之时，即初夏。樱桃，亦中药名。
菊花时：菊花盛开之时，即深秋。菊花，亦中药名。
回乡曲：意谓回家的信息。回乡，谐中药名“茴香”。

陈亚由做医工的舅父养大，他从小耳濡目染，药名烂熟于胸。词人长期在外做官不能回家。妻子写信给词人倾诉相思之情，词人有感于此便在写下这首巧用药名的闺情词。

生查子·药名闺情鉴赏
这是一首别具风味的药名闺情词。词中以深挚的感情和浅近的语言，别具一格、匠心独运地妙用一连串药名，通过闺中人以书信向客居在外的夫君倾诉相思之情的情节，抒写了闺中人思念远人的款款深情。
词的上片通过闺中人书信难表相思之深的描写，抒写她对丈夫的深情厚意。起首两句，谓自从丈夫别后，忆念甚深。她无法排解离愁，便把深深的思念写入信中，但却怎么写也写不尽。“字字”二句是说信中的每一个字，都是诉说这离别之苦的，是要丈夫读了知道此情。参星西，商星（即辰星）东，此出彼没，永不相见，比喻双方隔绝。“苦参商”三字极传神，谓因夫妻离别、隔如参商而苦恨不已。这正好说明闺中人何以“相思意已深”而“白纸书难足”了。以上，“相思”、“意已”（薏苡）、“白纸（芷）”、“苦参”、“郎读（狼毒）”均为药名。
过片“记得约当归”前添上“分明”二字，更显出分手时的相约印象甚深。“分明”二句，写闺中人回忆当日分手时的情景：她一再叮嘱丈夫，最迟不要超过樱桃红熟时（指夏季）回家。但她等了又等，盼了又盼，却她终不见心上人回来。于是，她不禁爱怨交织地问道：“现连菊花都开了（指秋天），为什么还不回来呢？”这四句一气呵成，情味深长，含蕴不尽，可看作是信中内容的延续，也可看作是信外的心底思忖。
词的下片，以怨詈口气，进一步抒写闺中人怀念远人的情怀；结尾出以反问，更显思念之深切。词中使用的药名，有“当归”、“远至（志）”、“樱姚”、“菊花”、“回乡（茴香）”等。

陈亚（约公元1017年前后在世）字亚之，维扬（今江苏扬州）人。生卒年均不详，约宋真宗天禧初前后在世。咸平五年（公元1002年）进士。尝为杭之于潜令，守越州、润州、湖州，仕至太常少卿。家有藏书数千卷，名画数十轴，为生平之所宝。晚年退居，有“华亭双鹤”怪石一株，尤奇峭，与异花数十本，列植于所居。亚好以药名为诗词，有药名诗百首，其中佳句如“风月前湖夜，轩窗半夏凉，”颇为人所称。药名词如生查子，称道之者亦多。少孤，长于舅家，受其舅影响，熟谙，药名，有药名诗百馀首。
