本事诗十首·选二鉴赏
苏曼殊，中国近代史上一大奇才，广东香山（今中山）人。曾三次剃度为僧，又三次还俗。尤其是第三次出家后不到一年，又匆匆还俗，甚至连僧衣僧鞋都来不及更换，又以一个和尚的身份与诗人的气质回到尘俗之中。作为对社会改良充满希望的热血青年，他时而激昂，西装革履，慷慨陈辞，为革命而振臂高呼；时而颓唐，身披僧衣，逃身禅坛，在青灯黄卷中寻找精神的安慰。这两首《本事诗》充分表现出了苏曼殊的浪漫才情和内心矛盾。
柳无忌曾指出苏曼殊的《本事诗》十首都是他为其所钟爱的日本歌伎百助枫子所写，但苏曼殊的身世特别，又投身佛门，自知生死无常，不能给百助以家庭的安顿和幸福的保障，故始终未能与百助结婚。此处所选的第一首诗就道出他内心的这种矛盾。“乌舍凌波肌似雪”是以印度传说中的神女乌舍来比喻百助，说她步履轻盈如凌波仙子，其肌肤又如雪似玉；“亲持红叶索题诗”是指百助对他诗才的爱戴和一片深情，此处用“红叶题诗”的典故也暗示了百助有向他求婚的经历。然而，诗人已经出家为僧了，心中苦衷不能尽道，虽然钟情百助，也只好对这美妙动人的少女加以婉拒了。诗的最后两句正透露出诗人的矛盾：泪本是有情之物，诗人偏把泪说成是无情；相逢是爱的开始，但却留下了恨的遗憾。诗人模仿唐人诗句“还君明珠双泪垂，恨不相逢未嫁时”，改“未嫁”为“未剃”，一方面说明他内心深处真爱百助，另一方面又蕴含了无限的无奈与哀婉。
第二首诗则寄寓了诗人的凄凉身世以及对前程充满彷徨迷惘的孤独感。“春雨楼头尺八箫”首先创造了一种凄婉迷茫的雨中境界：迷蒙细雨中诗人倚靠在日本民居的小楼上，正听着百助用尺八箫吹奏着《春雨》曲，竟引出诗人无尽的乡思。“春雨”既指现实中的春景又指箫声所吹曲名，一语双关。“何时归看浙江潮？”既指箫声引起他对故国的思念，亦可指他挂念着当时国内的革命思潮。“芒鞋破钵无人识”则点出诗人自身的僧家身份，又暗含有诗人的凄楚身世。“踏过樱花第几桥！”则道出了生命的伤感和人生似梦的感谓。日本的樱花绚丽而短暂，诗人在漫天的樱花飘洒中孤独前行，亦是一断鸿飘零，不知归往何处。苏曼殊以一种梦幻般的诗境表达了他于乡愁的惆怅和对生命的理解。
上述二诗，极其典型地体现出了苏曼殊的浪漫“情僧”和云游“诗僧”的形象。读此二诗，这位才情横溢、浪漫奇幻、集亢奋与忧郁于一身的青年俊秀就定格在我们的脑海之中。只可惜天不假俊杰以时间，苏曼殊只在人间度过了三十五个春秋，便在贫病中辞世，他以绚烂的生命浇灌出中国近现代文坛的一朵奇葩。

苏曼殊（1884～1918年），近代作家、诗人、翻译家，广东香山（今广东中山）人。原名戬，字子谷，学名元瑛（亦作玄瑛），法名博经，法号曼殊，笔名印禅、苏湜。光绪十年（公元1884年）生于日本横滨，父亲是广东茶商，母亲是日本人。苏曼殊一生能诗擅画，通晓日文、英文、梵文等多种文字，可谓多才多艺，在诗歌、小说等多种领域皆取得了成就，后人将其著作编成《曼殊全集》（共5卷）。作为革新派的文学团体南社的重要成员，苏曼殊曾在《民报》，《新青年》等刊物上投稿，他的诗风“清艳明秀”，别具一格，在当时影响甚大。
