译文
天高气爽的秋季，彩云最容易被风吹散开去，燕子听到满腹心事之人的长叹，也会感到怜惜，几次离合总是没有来由，让人感到时而忧愁，时而温馨。
归雁飞来的时候。霜期已经到来，可以托大雁把书信带给那远行的人吗？还是不要想以前的那些事了，暂且倚着绣枕看那西下的落日吧。
注释
虞美人：词牌名，唐教坊曲。初咏项羽宠姬虞美人，因以为名。又名 “一江春水”、“玉壶水”、“巫山十二峰”等。双调，五十六字，上下片各四句。
僝僽（chán zhòu）：烦恼、愁苦。
“归鸿”二句：香笺（jiān）：指散发有香气的信笺。红蕤（ruí）：红蕤枕。传说中的仙枕，此处代指绣花枕。欹（qī）：斜着。

赵秀亭、冯统一《饮水词笺校》载：“以恋人口吻作寄友诗，亦释家常伎。此阕实为寄顾贞观词。性德康熙二十三年春寄顾贞观书云‘杪夏新秋，准期握手’，即词‘旧约霜前至’事；词‘几番离合’句，亦与梁汾曾数度南返合。词或二十三年春随书以寄。”

虞美人·彩云易向秋空散鉴赏
这首词是从闺中人的角度写的，写她想思的愁情难耐，写她痛苦矛盾的心理。
上片写二人总是轻易地分离，且没有任何缘由。“彩云易向秋空散，燕子怜长叹”，是说彩云易散，好景难留。独居深闺盼人归的女子满腹心事，想起欢聚时的温馨和离别时的不舍，她不免一会儿欢喜，一会儿忧愁正满腹心事，却又见北燕南去，直惹来声声长叹，连燕子都觉得自己可怜：“几番离合总无因，赢得一回僝僽一回亲”，虽然每次的离合没有什么原因，但每次却都带来一次伤感，相逢时又更加亲近。
下片首二句写他又一次爽约，连书信都没有寄来。“归鸿旧约霜前至，可寄香笺字”，句中还可以读出些许怨恨，是说当初分别的时候。虽然曾定好霜期之前就会归来，但在回来之前。应该寄封书信来一解自己的相思之苦啊。“不如前事不思量。且枕红蕤欹侧看斜阳”两句是女子的自我安慰之语，看似自我解脱，实透露着无奈和伤感。这是整首词最妙之处，女子愁罢叹罢，忽而觉得自己的情绪有些莫名其妙，于是自我安慰、自我开解一番，索性侧身看那夕阳去。这般极富生活化的场景真实得仿佛就在我们每个人身边，妙趣冲淡了愁苦，感伤中又带着几分难察的俏皮。词的婉转味道因而又平添了几分，这比起说来说去只有“思念”二字的诗词更容易贴近人心。
全词明白如话，短短两片词，闺中女子相思甚苦、愁情难耐的矛盾心理跃然纸上。而这一番小女子的细腻心思、扭捏姿态却出于一个男人笔下，让人不得不感叹纳兰容若的情愫之敏感、体物之细微。

纳兰性德（1655－1685），满洲人，字容若，号楞伽山人，清代最著名词人之一。其诗词“纳兰词”在清代以至整个中国词坛上都享有很高的声誉，在中国文学史上也占有光采夺目的一席。他生活于满汉融合时期，其贵族家庭兴衰具有关联于王朝国事的典型性。虽侍从帝王，却向往经历平淡。特殊的生活环境背景，加之个人的超逸才华，使其诗词创作呈现出独特的个性和鲜明的艺术风格。流传至今的《木兰花令·拟古决绝词》——“人生若只如初见，何事秋风悲画扇？等闲变却故人心，却道故人心易变。”富于意境，是其众多代表作之一。
