北楼西望满晴空，积水连山胜画中。
湍上急流声若箭，城头残月势如弓。

金城北楼译文及注释
译文
在北楼上往西望去，满眼是晴朗的天空，浩浩的流水依傍着连绵的山峰，那秀丽的景色胜过图画。
湍濑之上，急奔的水流好像离弦之箭的破空声；高挂在城头上空的一弯月亮形同一张悬着的弯弓。
垂下钓竿我不由十分羡慕姜太公的际遇，当我深刻地领会到人事变化的规律时，又不由深深思念起塞上那位通达世事的老翁。
想知道边陲地带到底还发生了什么事，但知道如今回荡在那边陲上空的还是一片羌笛的哀怨之声。
注释
金城：古地名，即今甘肃兰州。
磻溪老：指姜太公吕尚。
羌笛：乐器，出于羌族，因以名之，其曲音调多凄婉。

金城北楼创作背景
这首诗是高适为数不多的律诗佳作之一。公元752年（天宝十一载）秋冬之际，高适经人引荐，入陇右节度使哥舒翰幕中，充任掌书记。此诗即写于离开长安赴陇右途经金城时作。此次赴陇右幕府，虽是他所渴求的，但前途如何，未可预卜，所以诗中仍有几分观望心情。
