译文
北来的鸿雁预示着岁暮时节到来了，妻子的来信勾起了归家之念，梦里回家神情恍惚难分真假。
梦醒后推窗一看，只见桐叶凋落，池荷谢尽，已下了一夜秋雨，但自己沉酣于梦境之中，竟充耳不闻。
注释
云梦馆：似指古云梦地区某客馆。云梦，古云梦泽地域相当广大，大致包括今湖南益阳县湘阴县以北，湖北江陵县安陆县以南、武汉以西地区。此处可能指云梦县，即湖北安陆。
岁欲昏：即岁欲暮之意。一年将尽。
私书：指家书。杳：隐约貌。
宿云梦馆创作背景
这首诗当系宋仁宗景祐三年（1036年）诗人痛斥高若讷后被指为范仲淹“朋党”，贬作夷陵（今湖北宜昌）令时，途经湖北安陆（古云梦地区），独宿客馆思亲之作。

宿云梦馆鉴赏
这是诗人思念妻室之作。
“北雁来时岁欲昏”，是写季候、时节，也是暗点思归之情。“北雁”南来，是写眼前景，但古有鸿雁传书之说，所以下句接以“私书”，表示接到了妻子的信，一语双关。“岁欲昏”即岁月将暮之意。“岁暮”正是在外之人盼与家人团圆的时节，而诗人不但不能与家人团圆欢聚，反而要远行异地，这引起了他的悠悠愁绪。
“私书归梦杳难分”是对思归之情的具体刻画。欧阳修与妻子伉俪情深，他的《踏莎行》，就是写他们夫妻相别情景：“候馆梅残，溪桥柳细，草薰风暖摇征辔。离愁渐远渐无穷，迢迢不断如春水。寸寸柔肠，盈盈粉泪，楼高莫近危阑倚，平芜尽处是春山，行人更在春山外。”夫妻难舍难分，离别之后，“私书”不断，梦寐以思。正所谓心有所思，夜有所梦，是真是幻，连诗人都分不清了。“杳难分”三字，逼真地显示了诗人梦归后将醒未醒时的情态和心理。
李商隐《夜雨寄北》诗云：“君问归期未有期，巴山夜雨涨秋池。何当共剪西窗烛，却话巴山夜雨时。”“西窗”二字即暗用李商隐诗中的情事。言外之意是：何日方能归家，与妻室共剪西窗之烛，共话今日云梦馆夜雨之情？
这首诗，虽然运用了李商隐的诗意，但能运用入妙，不着痕迹，既亲切自然，又增益了诗的内涵。

欧阳修（1007－1072），字永叔，号醉翁，晚号“六一居士”。汉族，吉州永丰（今江西省永丰县）人，因吉州原属庐陵郡，以“庐陵欧阳修”自居。谥号文忠，世称欧阳文忠公。北宋政治家、文学家、史学家，与韩愈、柳宗元、王安石、苏洵、苏轼、苏辙、曾巩合称“唐宋八大家”。后人又将其与韩愈、柳宗元和苏轼合称“千古文章四大家”。
