译文
西湖阔，烟波浩渺波连波，东西南北望，不见岸堤坡。丝竹篁管声悲咽，随风荡湖面。绿裙罗带伴娇飞，舞罢双双垂。尊前美酒入红唇，染就香腮红云。
贪看歌舞人入迷，酒盈金杯，不知滑欲坠，欢乐极时宜生悲，想起日后各南北。面对美景与歌舞，不禁惆怅盈腹肺。
注释
西湖：指颍州城西北的西湖。
丝：琴瑟之类；簧：笙筝之类；丝簧：泛指乐器。
琉璃：本指绿色或金黄色的釉料，此指绿色的酒。琉璃滑：喻美酒甘甜爽口。
六幺：又名绿腰，唐宋时期的歌舞曲名。

此首可能作于皇祐二年（1050）七月，当时词人被安排为应天府南京留守司事，辞别颍州。

玉楼春·西湖南北烟波阔鉴赏
本篇起二句以简炼的笔触，概括地写出了西湖的广阔与繁华。“烟波阔”，一笔渲染过去，背景很有气派。“风里丝簧声韵咽”，则是浑括不流于纤弱的句子，使人想象到那广阔的烟波中，回荡着丝簧之声，当日西湖风光和一派繁华景象，便如目前。
三、四句承次句点到的丝簧之声，具体写歌舞。“舞余裙带绿双垂，酒入香腮红一抹”，写的不是丝簧高奏，而是舞后。但从终于静下来的“裙带绿双垂”之状，可以想象此前“舞腰红乱旋”的翩翩之态；从“香腮红一抹”的娇艳，可以想象酒红比那粉黛胭脂之红更为好看，同时歌舞女子面容之白和几乎不胜酒力，也得到了传神的表现。
换头由上片点出的“酒”过渡而下，但描写的角度转移到了正观赏歌舞的人们的一边。六幺是一种琵琶舞曲，花十八属于六幺中的一叠。因其包括花拍，与正拍相比，表演上有更多的花样与自由，也就格外迷人。酒杯手，连“琉璃滑”都感觉不到，为贪君歌舞而忘情之状。这样，转入明朝，就跌宕得更有力了。“明朝车马各西东，惆怅画桥风与月。”“明朝”不一定机械地指第二天，而是泛指日后或长或短的时间。随着人事的变化，今天沉醉不觉者会有一天被车马带向远方。那时，异乡，甚至无可奈何的孤独寂寞中，回首画桥风月，该是何等惆怅。
词中关于西湖烟波、风里丝簧和歌舞场面的描写，似带有欣赏的意味，而车马东西，回首画桥风月的惆怅，则表现出无可奈何之中若有所失又若有所思的一种很复杂的情绪。

欧阳修（1007－1072），字永叔，号醉翁，晚号“六一居士”。汉族，吉州永丰（今江西省永丰县）人，因吉州原属庐陵郡，以“庐陵欧阳修”自居。谥号文忠，世称欧阳文忠公。北宋政治家、文学家、史学家，与韩愈、柳宗元、王安石、苏洵、苏轼、苏辙、曾巩合称“唐宋八大家”。后人又将其与韩愈、柳宗元和苏轼合称“千古文章四大家”。
