幼卿少与表兄同研席，雅有文字之好。未笄，兄欲缔姻。父母以兄未禄，难其请，遂适武弁。明年，兄登甲科，职教洮房，而良人统兵陕右，相与邂逅于此。兄鞭马略不相顾，岂前憾未平耶。因作浪淘沙以寄情云。
目送楚云空，前事无踪。漫留遗恨锁眉峰。自是荷花开较晚，孤负东风。

译文
幼卿自小时与表兄一起同窗学习，平素喜欢写些诗词文字。快到及笄之年时，表兄欲与幼卿结为连理，前来提亲却被父母以未取得功名为由一口回绝，并将幼卿许配给一个武将。第二年，表兄高中前三甲，去洮房（今甘肃境内）担任职务，而幼卿相公在陕西统兵领将，不期与表兄重逢于驿站。但表兄鞭马向前并未多看幼卿一眼，应是因当时求亲未成而对幼卿耿耿于怀吧。因此作《浪淘沙》以寄托这段情思。
轻盈的云絮，飘逝在楚天的远空，往事就如那浮云散去，无影无踪。徒自留下深探憾恨锁藏在微蹙的眉峰。自是荷花开得晚，负了柔情荡溢的春风。
没有想到在这驿馆与他邂逅相逢，叹人生恰如飘蓬聚匆匆，散也匆匆。那一鞭骤然扬起怎忍心抽打花骢。凝望他飞驰的身影远远消逝在片斜阳暮色中，不由双泪泣落衣袖染成斑斑点点如血渍的黯红。
注释
《浪淘沙》：唐教坊曲名，后用为词牌。双调，五十四字。上片五句，四平前，二十七字。下片同。
同砚席：一起读书的意思。
雅：很。此句说，共同学习中产生了感情。
笄（jī）：簪子，古代用来插住挽起的发髻。“及笄”特指女子可以盘发插笄的年龄，即成年。未笄：未成年。
缔（dì）姻：定婚。
未禄：未得官禄。指未做官。父母：《全宋词》作“父兄”。《能改斋漫录）作“父母”。据以径改。
难：拒绝。
适：嫁，嫁给。武弁（biàn）：军人，武夫。《能改斋漫录》“武弁”后有“公”字。
甲科：进士的代称。唐代进士分甲乙两科。
职教：作管理教学的官职。洮房：疑指湖北房州（今房县）。
良人：丈夫。陕右：陕西西部。
邂逅（xiè hòu） ：偶然相遇。
憾：心中不满。前憾：指以前求婚父母不许一事。
楚云：南方的云。这里暗用巫山神女的典故。双关义指眼见从前的情意化为乌有。
此句指，从前读书相爱的事今已无影无踪。
飘蓬：飞蓬，秋后枯萎断根，随风飞旋的一种草。
骤：马奔驰。花骢（cōng）：玉花骋。青白相间的马。唐太宗“八骏”中有玉花骋。此句意思是，你怎么能忍心扬鞭打马，让玉花骢急骤奔驰匆匆离去呢？
啼红：啼哭的泪。

浪淘沙·目送楚云空创作背景
该词具体创作年份未知。从词前小序可知，幼卿小时候与表兄感情很好，成年后，表兄曾来提亲，但幼卿父母以他未得功名为由拒绝，让女儿另嫁他人。从小序可知，她婚后和表兄在驿馆偶遇，随即匆匆而别，所以写该词表达她心中巨大的遗恨和痛苦。

浪淘沙·目送楚云空鉴赏
这首词上片写“目送楚云”，下片又曰“望断斜阳”，显然全篇笔墨集中在写两个有GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人驿馆不期而遇又倏然而别的动人一幕。“目送楚云空，前事无踪”，经年不见的表兄，突然出现在眼前，勾起自己多少相思恨。可是人在眼前，却不能对他面诉衷情；顷刻间GREn/ target=_blank class=infotextkey>情人鞭马而去，又只好忍看他匆匆离去，徒然远远地“目送楚云”，心中凄楚难言。“楚云”，似说漂泊的行人如浮云般远去，又何尝不是暗示往昔的一段恋情，云雨巫山枉断肠。一个“空”字，多少怅惘，大有往事不堪回首之慨。
紧接“目送楚云空”一句，抒情女主人公仿佛发出一声轻轻叹息：“前事无踪”。“前事“，自是指她“少与表兄同砚席，雅有文字之好”那段美好的时光，然而，往事已如云烟般地永远消失了。当然，如果真的彻底消失得渺无踪迹，倒也干净；可是，却又偏在自己心灵深处，留下了不可磨灭的终身遗恨。“漫留遗恨锁眉峰”，空有遗恨，不能明言，又难以排遣，于是她转而自怨自艾，归咎于命运：“自是荷花开较晚，孤负东风”，可怜的荷花，你不在春天开放，偏要迟迟等到夏季，孤负了东风的深情，现在只好独自默默地吞咽下这人生的苦果了。荷花的比喻，当是指自己年尚未笄、兄欲缔姻这件事了。实际上真正的原因是：“父母以兄未禄，难其请”，这一点幼卿当然是很清楚，然而，作为封建时代的妇女，不便责怪父母，所以，她吞吞吐吐隐约其辞。
上片由“目送楚云”引出对往事的回忆，下片便着重写这次重逢的悲恸。“客馆叹飘蓬，聚散匆匆”，在幼卿看来，人生就像随风飘的蓬草，不曾想到两个离别经年的恋人，会突然在这他乡驿馆见面。相见却又立刻相别，人生的离合、聚散，如此匆匆。
于是词人便推出这短暂的扣人心弦的一幕：“扬鞭那忍骤花骢。”这一幕也就是《能改斋漫录》记述的情景：二人“相与邂逅于此，兄鞭马，略不相顾，岂前憾未平耶”。可以想见，此情此景，从悲剧主人公眼里望去，更是心如刀剜。她怪他给马儿狠狠的那一鞭，太无情了，忽地拉开了两人的距离，他骑着的花骢马飞奔而去，他怎么忍心匆匆离开，也不多看自己一眼。然而，她心里又何尝不明白：在这一刹那间，他内心翻腾何等剧烈的痛苦，正因为他前时欲缔姻未成，对她有误解，有怨气，所谓“前憾未平”，才给马儿狠狠一鞭，这狠狠一鞭，看似无情却是有情。
这一鞭，在悲剧女主人公心里是永远难忘的，它象征着心爱的人永远地离去；它象征着美好的恋情如昙花一现，永远幻灭；它象征着无可弥补的千古遗恨。“扬鞭”这一句写出了特定情境中一个具有典型意义的动作，刻画出悲剧主人公内心感情的剧烈矛盾和痛苦，是十分难得的传神妙笔。而这种传神之笔来源于生活本身，因而更为真切动人。
表兄远远去了，她还痴痴望着，看他远去的身影，越来越远，越来越小，终于消失，而她还在痴痴地望着，直到“望断斜阳”。显然，少女时期最初的恋情未遂将使她抱恨终身，在今后的岁月中，她或许将朝朝暮暮凭栏“目送楚云”、“望断斜阳”。而这种痛苦又只能永远埋藏在心灵的最深层，于无人处偷偷饮泣，以至于“满袖啼红”，此恨绵绵无尽期也。
