译文
怅望一日千里，如今头上有了白发。
还想奔赴阳谷，不嫌陇山山高。
倚马可见纸笔，随身只带宝刀。
预料你终能自致高位，建功立业的地方就在临洮。
注释
临洮：即临洮郡，治所在今甘肃省临潭县西南。当时已成为边境重镇，属陇右节度使管辖。
二毛：头发黑白相间，俗称花白头发。
阳谷：地名，在今甘肃淳化北。
倚马：指倚马可待的敏捷才思。雄笔：犹雄文。
勋业：功业。
送蹇秀才赴临洮创作背景
此诗作于天宝十一载（752年）秋天。蹇秀才不知何人。大概这位蹇秀才与高适相似，都是久沉下僚，想到战场上去争取功名，因此高适创作此诗鼓励他。
