该诗创作于北宋徽宗崇宁大观间，即公元十二世纪之初的某一年的重阳节前，当时的权相蔡京派人请小晏填写新词，作为应节歌唱之用，小晏于是欣然为作此篇。

鹧鸪天·九日悲秋不到心鉴赏
北宋徽宗崇宁。大观间，即公元十二世纪之初的某一年的重阳节前，当时的权相蔡京派人请小晏填写新词，作为应节歌唱之用，小晏于是欣然为作此篇。
作为重九的应节之作，小晏这首词是很特别的，他把悲秋、登高、怀人等等传统的题材和写法统统抛却，一反常情，说柳叶落实愁眉淡了，黄花开是笑靥深了，而且大肆渲染歌舞酒宴的豪华享乐气氛，简直把重阳写成了一个欢乐的节日。这一特点很值得玩味的。王灼说小晏作此词“无一语及蔡者”，意思是说作者没有借机攀附权贵，是对作者的赞赏。然而，王灼似乎看得浅了。仔细品味起来，小晏非但没有阿谀蔡京，这种一反常规的写法，未尝不是对蔡京的讽刺：“九日悲秋不到心”，别人都悲秋，那是因为很多不如意，你蔡京位极人臣，百事顺遂，悲秋怎会到你的心上：“绮罗丛里胜登临”，别人都去登高以避灾祈福，你蔡京大富大贵，哪里用的着这一套，偎红倚翠，饮酒享乐就是了！从这个角度来读这首词，不是很有意味吗？

晏几道（1030-1106，一说1038—1110 ，一说1038-1112），男，汉族，字叔原，号小山，著名词人，抚州临川文港沙河（今属江西省南昌市进贤县）人。晏殊第七子。历任颍昌府许田镇监、乾宁军通判、开封府判官等。性孤傲，晚年家境中落。词风哀感缠绵、清壮顿挫。一般讲到北宋词人时，称晏殊为大晏，称晏几道为小晏。《雪浪斋日记》云：“晏叔原工小词，不愧六朝宫掖体。”如《鹧鸪天》中的“舞低杨柳楼心月，歌尽桃花扇底风”等等词句，备受人们的赞赏。
