译文
窗外雨水掠过小溪，发出了清脆的声响。屋里的孤灯显得格外的亮，但也格外的清冷。词人独自一人在屋中小憩，这种感觉真像乘坐孤舟在湘江之上漂荡。此时，仿佛湘君轻挽裙带，水上盈盈步微月，皎洁与清冷的月光映照在她身上。
水仙发出清冽的香气，可是受到寒气的侵袭，使她想起生长在千顷波涛的江湖岸边时的生活。虽有新愁涌上心头，但依然沉浸在旧梦中。隐约仙子的秀发闪耀着动人的光泽且蓬松欹侧，玉簪也微微斜着，直到仙子渐渐远去，词人的酒意才微醒。
注释夜游宫：词牌名，双调五十七字，前后两段六句，四仄韵。计二体，此用正体。
隐几：凭着几案。
娟娟（juān）：美好貌。苏洵《张益州画像记》：“有女娟娟，闺闼闲闲。”
捎：掠拂。
嚼（jiáo）花：《花史》：“铁脚道人常嚼梅花满口，和雪咽之，曰：‘吾欲寒香冷人肺腑。’”
潇湘（xiāo xiāng）：即今湖南境内的湘江。据《史记·五帝本纪》记载虞舜巡视南方，死在苍梧之野，其妻娥皇、女英闻讯赶至南方，投水殉夫，成为潇湘女神。
幽仙：指湘君。
凌波：水仙花以水为生，故有凌波仙子之美称。
寒劲：指严寒。
沧涛：寒冷的波涛。
绀（gàn）云欹（qī）：深青而带红色的云倾斜着。
玉搔（sāo）：玉簪。

夜游宫·竹窗听雨创作背景
这首诗具体创作年代已不详。但这首词前之小序记述了词人写此词的经过。一夜，词人在竹窗下听簌簌雨声，久坐后就凭着几案睡着了；睡梦醒来，看见绰约风姿的水仙在灯影中如仙女婆娑起舞。于是命笔写词表达了追慕之情。

梦窗的梦词，大多不落俗套，具有创造性。这首梦词虽然不是他的名作，但和他的《踏莎行》一样，都具有新意和美感，内心感受也极为细腻生动，而且词人把自己的号“梦窗”化雪无痕地融人了词中。
词的小序交代了词人倚竹窗听雨、慢慢入睡、梦见女仙的过程。上片用典虽多，但不失晦涩，读者能深切地感受到这寥寥二十几个字内营造出的凄美意境：窗外雨声潺潺，雨水掠过小溪，发出了清脆的声响。这时屋里的孤灯显得格外的亮，但也格外的清冷，那种冷是一种寒香冷，充盈着整个房间。窗外雾茫茫，雨水漫上台阶，词人独自一人在屋中小憩，这种感觉真像乘坐孤舟在湘江之上漂荡。此时，仿佛湘君轻挽裙带，水上盈盈步微月，皎洁与清冷的月光映照在她身上。
下片依然叙写梦境。“香苦欺寒劲”，短短五个字却包含了肤觉、视觉、味觉、嗅觉和心灵体味。“香苦”两句，言水仙发出清冽的香气，可是苦于受到冬夜寒气的侵袭，使她不禁追念起生长在千顷波涛的江湖岸边时的自由自在的生活。两句既是拟人化的神化描绘，又是词人寄人篱下身不由己的苦闷借题发泄。“梦觉”一句，言词人从幻梦中清醒过来，只见眼前仍旧是原来一成不变的景象。面对这种压柳的生活，词人更添上一段新的愁绪。“绀云”三句，扣题“既觉”。词人醒时对花独酌，醉而伏案而眠；再醒后始觉头上青丝零乱，玉簪斜挂，活现出一个不拘小节的风流词人形象。
整首词颇具梦窗词的特色，梦窗写词，无论写妻妾或描绘梦境，总是晦涩中带有真情，仿佛词人总是睁着惺忪迷离的双眼，在描绘这个令人感到刺骨寒心的世界，可是心里却无比的清醒。错觉与幻境，错综叠合，将读者引入一个魔方大厦，满眼琳琅的风景与色彩，迷离幻邈不可追寻。词人写梦中的女子，不管是描绘她的姿态还是容貌，毫无往日宫体诗词的猥琐与晦暗，他笔下的仙子散发着水仙花的清香，与月为伴，在雨中徜徉，在沧涛上漫步，高洁优雅，超凡脱俗。这首词营造了一种精致独到、虽不阔大但十分幽远的艺术境界。

吴文英（约1200～1260），字君特，号梦窗，晚年又号觉翁，四明（今浙江宁波）人。原出翁姓，后出嗣吴氏。与贾似道友善。有《梦窗词集》一部，存词三百四十余首，分四卷本与一卷本。其词作数量丰沃，风格雅致，多酬答、伤时与忆悼之作，号“词中李商隐”。而后世品评却甚有争论。
