在衙门里休息的时候，听见竹叶萧萧作响，仿佛听见了百姓啼饥号寒的怨声。
我们虽然只是州县里的小官吏，但百姓的每一件小事都在牵动着我们的感情。
注释
署：衙门。
年伯：古称同榜考取的人为同年，称“同年”的父辈为年伯。
中丞：清代将巡抚称为中丞。
衙斋：官衙中供官员居住和休息之所。
萧萧：拟声词，形容草木摇动声。
些小：很小，这里指官职卑微。
吾曹：我们。
关情：牵动情怀。
潍县署中画竹呈年伯包大丞括创作背景
这首诗是郑板桥于乾隆十一、二年（1746年—1747年）间任山东潍县知县时所作。科举时代称同科考取的人为同年，对同年的父辈或父亲的同年称年伯。清代巡抚又称中丞，“大”是表示尊敬之意。郑板桥曾画过一幅《风竹图》呈送包括，此诗即是题写在这幅画上的。

潍县署中画竹呈年伯包大丞括鉴赏
这是一首题画诗，从写竹入手，托物言志，表达了对民众的忧虑关切之情，以及自己的责任感与清官心态。由于画是送给上司兼长辈的，因此语多谦逊委婉之辞。
首句点明身份与环境，紧扣画中风来疏竹的主题。“衙斋”即衙门中的静室，说明自己身为官员；不言“官邸”“府第”等，既表明自己的官阶较低，又有谦逊之意。忙中偷闲，静卧休息，却听得似有风雨之中，原来那是衙中自己亲手所埴的竹林幽篁为清风所动，萧萧作响，意趣横生。从中见出本属嘈杂冗浊之地的官衙竟然如许优雅，诗人自己的风雅本性也就不言而喻了。
如按照常理写法，既如此开篇，以下就极易流为吟风弄月之作，但第二句却出人意料地振腕转笔，由竹叶声响联想到民间疾苦，“疑”字道出了诗人的爱民之心与勤政之意，表达了他对百姓的真挚情感。他在任期间确实也是对百姓关怀备至，深得百姓的感戴。最后因擅自开仓赈济，触犯了贪官污吏的直接利益，被诬告罢官。
诗人极为重视诗、书、画三者的结合，常用诗文点题，将书法题i只穿插F画面形象之中，形成不可分割的统一体。全诗语言质朴，不用典故堆砌，纯以白描手法作诗。但时日以比喻、双关的手法穿插其中，以诗提升画的意境，以画增添诗的韵致，相得益彰。

郑板桥（1693—1765）清代官吏、书画家、文学家。名燮，字克柔，汉族，江苏兴化人。一生主要客居扬州，以卖画为生。“扬州八怪”之一。其诗、书、画均旷世独立，，世称“三绝”，擅画兰、竹、石、松、菊等植物，其中画竹已五十余年，成就最为突出。著有《板桥全集》。康熙秀才、雍正举人、乾隆元年进士。中进士后曾历官河南范县、山东潍县知县，有惠政。以请臻饥民忤大吏，乞疾归。
