胡榘（1164－1224），江西庐陵人，宋抗金名臣胡铨之孙。淳熙十四年（1187），24岁的胡榘以监庆元比较务摄任（暂代）象山县令，监比较务是州衙监管各县酒务（当时酒类属国家专买）的职事官员。淳熙十五年，李孟传就任象山令，胡榘去职。可就在十四年秋，胡榘到象邑之西山（西谷）赏丹桂，赞叹之余，引发诗兴，写了一首《咏丹桂》，在宽阔的联想和想像中，浓墨重彩地渲染了丹桂的风采。“象山县令诗咏象山花”成了一时传闻，此诗也不胫而走，被广泛传抄。
