（1525—1582）湖广江陵人，字叔大，号太岳。嘉靖二十六年进士。授编修。严嵩、徐阶均器重之。迁右中允，领国子司业事，与祭酒高拱善，相期以相业。阶代嵩为首辅，倾心委之。隆庆元年引之入阁。阶致仕，居正与司礼监李芳谋，引拱入阁。同定封俺答事，北边遂得安宁。此后渐生嫌隙，神宗时与司礼监冯保谋，逐拱，遂为首辅。神宗即位时年幼，小有过失，慈圣太后即责云：“使张先生闻，奈何？”及帝渐长，心厌之。卒，谥文忠。未几弹劾者即纷起。次年，追夺官爵；又次年，籍没家产。天启间，始追复故官。有《张太岳集》、《太岳杂著》等。
